Møt en mann som jobbet tett med Bowie på albumene som skjøt David Robert Jones, «a lad insane» fra den sørøstlige utkanten av London, ut i intergalaktisk berømmelse; den legendariske produsenten Ken Scott.

Kenneth får selskap av Classic Album Sundays’ lokale lytteklubbvert Kent Horne i Oslo Konserthus’ høykvalitetslydvennlige Lille Sal - til en samtale rundt to av rockehistoriens mest ikoniske utgivelser; «The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars» (1972) og «Aladdin Sane» (1973).

Vi får høre historiene fra Kens første møte med David, fra samarbeidet i studio, og vi vil lytte til utvalgte spor fra Scotts ferske 2024 Stereo Mix (96/24) av 'Ziggy Stardust', i tillegg til noen eksklusive smakebiter fra de originale flersporsopptakene. I andre del av kvelden vil vi fokusere på oppfølgeren 'Aladdin Sane', før vi lener oss tilbake og hører langspilleren i fullt strekk. SCOTT

Ken produserte ikke bare Bowies ‘The Rise and Fall…’, men også den foregående skiva, ‘Hunky Dory’, og de to neste, ‘Aladdin Sane’ og ‘Pin Ups’. Han var dessuten en av de berømte fem hovedteknikerne for The Beatles, samt flere av soloplatene deres.

Scott fanget udødelige soniske signaturer fra den klassiske rocken på tape med artister som Elton John, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, America, Devo, Kansas, The Tubes, Missing Persons og Dixie Dregs.

Han var også med å definere den progressive fusionjazzen i dens glansdager på 60- og 70-tallet, med Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Jeff Beck og Stanley Clarke.

David Bowie var et musikalsk og kulturelt fenomen hvis betydning bare ser ut til å øke for hvert år som går. Han skjøt til topps på rockestjernehimmelen da Ziggy Stardust ble sluppet på markedet sommeren 1972. Opptredenen hans på Top of the Pops en måned senere, kledd som en rockestjerne fra en annen planet som fremførte «Starman», var en begivenhet som røsket opp i den gjengse poprocken og forandret livet til musikkinteresserte verden over.

Mellom spillejobbene på den påfølgende USA-turnéen med Ziggy Stardust fant Bowie tid til å lage mye av materialet vi hører på hans neste album. Aladdin Sane bragte med seg en tyngre glamrock-lyd, infusert av hans gode og dårlige opplevelser fra Amerikaturen; begeistringen som fulgte den nye stjernestatusen og slitasjen ved å være på veien, som satte spor av urbant forfall (og avfall) inn i tekstene hans; sex, narkotika, vold og død.

Meet a man who was there with Bowie, working closely with the albums that shot David Robert Jones, “a lad insane” from the South East outskirts of London, into inter-galactic fame; legendary record producer Ken Scott.

Kenneth will be joined by local host Kent Horne of Classic Album Sundays at Oslo Konserthus’ high quality sound friendly Lille Sal to discuss the making of two of rock history’s most iconic releases; ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’ (1972) and ‘Aladdin Sane’ (1973).

We’ll hear the stories from Ken’s first meeting with David, their cooperation in the studio, and listen to selected tracks from Scotts fresh 2024 Stereo Mix (96/24) of ‘Ziggy Stardust’, and also some exclusive excerpts from the original multi track recordings. Second section of the night will focus on the sequel ‘Aladdin Sane’ followed by a playback of the Long Player in full stretch. By the end you will also get the chance to put your comments or questions to one of the most important producers of all time.

Ken not only produced Bowie’s The Rise and Fall…, but also the preceding Hunky Dory and the following Aladdin Sane and Pin Ups. Furthermore, he was one of the five main engineers for the Beatles and their solowork, and captured the sonic signatures of a who's-who of classic rock and jazz acts, including Elton John, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Duran Duran, The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, America, Devo, Kansas, The Tubes, Missing Persons, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Dixie Dregs, and Stanley Clarke.

BOWIE

David Bowie was a musical and cultural phenomenon whose significance only seems to increase with every passing year. He rocketed to stardom about 50 years ago, in the summer of 1972, with the release of ‘Ziggy Stardust’. His appearance on Top of the Pops a month later, dressed as an alien rock star and performing ‘Starman’, was an event that changed many lives.

In between the gigs on his following Ziggy Stardust trip through America Bowie found time to write much of the material we’ll hear on his next album. Aladdin Sane brought along a heavier glam rock sound, infused by his ambigious impressions from the US tour, the excitements of the new-born stardom in one end and the wear and tear of being on the road on the other, bringing images of urban decay into his lyrics; sex, drugs, violence and death.
